Rain has been a not very welcomed guest during the afternoon of the second edition of Meydan Race Day at San Rossore, even though the success of the event was not compromised.
Meydan (that for the last 3 years has been sponsoring the Tuscany Endurance Festival in summer) was the main sponsor of the final race of the Autumn season at San Rossore – Pisa racecourse. On December the 10th two out of the seven races in the program, were reserved for PA with a large participation of horses from abroad that numerically exceeded the Italian participation. The afternoon opened with the Meydan Racecourse Award for 3 year old horses, with the victory of Dutch Dynamites trained by Karen Van de Bros; the horse still very young and immature but with an amazing potential. The most waited test of the day, was the Meydan Cup (listed race on 1,750meters), race on which it was expected the winning of the double winner of Gr.1 Lightning Bold. As well as the Dutch, at the start they were also one English (Lahoob), one French (Argonaute), two Swedish (Toutatix & Jalid Karo), a French trained in Italy (Djebel de la Roque) and one 100% Italian horse “ Tornado By Zucchele”. Antonio Efisio Pinna’s horse, probably for the first time in his career, managed to win first of all against bad luck. This situation allowed him to be able to compete at the highest of his potential and the winning line of the Meydan Cup was simply thrilling. Lighting Bold took the lead but on the outside Tornado Byzucchele recklessly took over. Tornado means “Storm” which is in facts what poured down on San Rossore when the two champions lived a race battle which ended only on the finish line where the Italian –bred grabbed a snout to his rival by winning his first Listed Race of his career. Excited to tears, Antonio Efisio Pinna and the jockey Antonello Fadda for a success which is also an amazing reward to their long career. Third position was taken by the beautiful Lahoob whom he’s reviving the standard of his best days. Tornado By Zucchele is Pinna’s homebred, chestnut male born in 2012 from Zucchele and Iapomica.
